Dark Vader; Don't You Mean Darth Vader?
Dark Vader may be an apt name for the Star Wars space villain, as he is dressed all in black (as all good bad guys should) and he uses the power of the dark side of the force, but in fact his correct name is DARTH Vader.
So What Does Darth Vader Mean? There does not seem to be any agreement upon meaning of the name Darth Vader, however, there are a number of theories and possible explanations.
Darth
1. Darth is simply a name. In the original movie, Episode IV, he is referred to, several times, as Darth, as if it were his name.
2. Darth is a title. As there are many other Sith Lords with the prefix Darth, it would seem as if this was a title bestowed upon high-ranking Sith.
3. Darth means dark. This is where the confusion around his name arises. It has appeared on many websites that Darth simply means dark.
Vader
1. Vader means father. Vader is the Dutch word for father and some suggest that this name represents the character as being the father of the force, due to his status in a prophecy.
2. Vader is just a menacing sounding name, derived at the time when Space Invaders was a very popular game.
3. Vader is a Germanic word for father which in the middle ages was used to denote seniority.
